Osteopathy considers each person as a whole and is based on the principle that an individual's wellbeing depends on their skeleton and musculature functioning smoothly together. At AMG Osteo Clinics we endeavour to not just treat your aches and pains, but seek out why they are happening and stop them reoccurring.

During your first Osteopathy appointment in our clinic, the osteopath will ask you about your symptoms and your general health before carrying out a physical examination. The osteopath will use their hands to find any areas of weakness, tenderness, restriction or strain within your body. They may ask you to do some specific movements to assess the mobility of your spine and/or the affected joints. You may be asked to remove some clothing from the area being examined. After the assessment you will be given a clinical diagnosis and be able to discuss whether Osteopathy can help treat the problem and, if so, what the treatment programme should involve.

Our trained osteopaths know when a patient needs to be referred to the correct specialist (e.g. GP, Orthopaedic surgeon) and this can be easily discussed and arranged with them.

Osteopathic Techniques

An osteopath aims to restore the normal function, stability and mobility to your muscles, bones and ligaments to help the body heal itself. They use a wide range of hands-on techniques to treat your body:

  • Soft tissue techniques – relaxing and improving flexibility in the muscles, ligaments and connective tissues.

  • Articulations and mobilisation – restores the normal mobility of your body’s joints.

  • Manipulations of the joints – improves movement and reduces pain.

  • Medical Acupuncture – targets the neuromuscular system and helps reduce acute pain.

  • Cranial-Sacral techniques – identifies minimal movements influencing the body’s fluid dynamics.

Osteopaths treat the body as a whole so advice may be given with regards to exercises, postural re-education and lifestyle and diet management.

Osteopathy is great for people seeking immediate care but also to those who want to continue looking after their bodies and who seek to maintain a high level of health. Our treatments are built to suit the needs of you as the individual and aim to restore your body back to its full function.

An Osteopath's Background

Osteopathy, alongside Chiropractic care, is one of only two Complementary and Alternative Medicines (CAMs) that are regulated under UK law.  To qualify, an osteopath has to study for 4-5 years, and must gain over 1000 hours of supervised clinical experience. By law, an osteopath must be registered with the General Osteopathic Council to be able to use and practice under this title. More information is available at www.osteopathy.org.uk.

Our trained Acupuncturists use their expert knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology to influence various functions of the body via the neuromuscular system. There is strong scientific evidence showing Medical Acupuncture helps to relieve knee, neck and lower back pain in addition to headaches, migraines and nausea.
